The Blue Gum Study - how Bushwalkers can do Tree Science

The fires in 2006, 2014 and fires with floods in 2019-2002 have had a dramatic impact on the Blue Gum Forest. Visible scarring is evident on some of the historic blue gums, and some of the crowns were impacted in the 2014 and 2000 events. There are concerns that this frequency of burning and the high intensity of the burning are risking the very existence of the Blue Gum Forest.

A grant has been provided by the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute to perform fieldwork to determine the impacts of these climactic events and whether action needs to be taken to save the Blue Gum Forest.
